You can find me on Facebook, Twitter, and blogging with the Whine Sisters -- stop by and say hi!

I not only love writing romances, I love to read them!  I also love getting book recommendations from other romance lovers and therefore thought I'd share some of my favorite authors with you, some of whom are my buds, others whom I just admire from afar.  Here they are in no particular order -- and check back because I'll be adding to this list (and if you have any recs for me, I'd love to hear them.  Email me at jacquied@jacquied.com)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marsha Canham www.marshacanhamebooks.com

If you haven't tried Marsha's swashbuckling stories, you are missing out.  And be sure to check out her new ebook versions of her earlier works that were out of print.  In addition to being a fabulous writer, Marsha is also a talented artist--her stained glass pieces are stunning!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Connie Brockway www.conniebrockway.com

Connie, who is one of the wittiest people I know, has written some of my all-time favorite romances, including As You Desire, My Dearest Enemy, and All Through the Night.  And she recently announced the exciting news that she'll be writing sequels to those classics which she'll publish as ebooks!  I can't wait to read them!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jill Gregory www.jillgregory.net

Jill writes fabulous westerns that will make you feel as if the mountain air is streaming through your hair while you fall in love.  Her most recent books, the Book of Names and The Illumination, are in the fascinating vein of Dan Brown's novels.  As if being a great writer wasn't enough, Jill is incredibly sweet and one of the most optimistic people I know.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Julia London www.julialondon.com

Julia writes both Regency-era historicals and contemporary woman's fiction with characters that will touch your heart and make you wish the story wasn't over.  Julia has the world's most adorable dog, Moose, (although there are days when she swears he's not so adorable) and is an avid runner.  She runs distances that exhaust me just to think about.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sherri Erwin www.sherribrowningerwin.com

Sherri's incredible books run the gamut from historical to light paranormal to mash-up classics.  Her latest, Jane Slayre is the terrific re-telling of the Bronte classic in the mash-up style and is not to be missed.  Sherri has a razor-sharp wit that makes me laugh at least once a day--you gotta love that!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Julie Ortolon www.julieortolon.com

Julie's heartwarming romances will make you laugh and cry and sigh with pleasure.  Luckily for all of us she has recently made a number of her previously out of print books available as ebooks.  Be sure to check out the Pearl Island trilogyJulie--who is an incredible artist as well as a writer--and I were first published around the same time and bonded over our newbie, "I'm clueless" status.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Virginia Henley www.virginiahenley.com

Virginia is the elegant grand dame of romance authors.  Her books are sexy and bawdy and utterly evocative of the period in which they are set.  Every one of her novels is on my keeper shelf and I cannot wait for her next book, The Dark Earl coming in September 2011. The first time I met Virginia all I could think was, "Wow--I'm standing here, with THE Virginia Henley.  And wow--she's talking to me!  Oh, God, what did she just say to me?"  Yup--I was so busy gawking, I missed whatever the heck it was she said, LOL!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kathleen Givens www.kathleengivens.com

The romance community lost an incredible author and I lost an amazing friend when Kathleen passed away in January 2010.  Her Scottish romances are absolutely beautifully written and you should not miss them.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wendy Etherington www.wendyetherington.com

Wendy is from the deep south and she has the fried chicken recipes to prove it (she'll share them if you ask her!).  Her Harlequin Blaze books are funny, sexy, and as addictive as chocolate.  She also writes fabulous NASCAR romances--I think the woman knows more about NASCAR than half the drivers!  In addition to fried chicken, she also makes the best bacon cheeseburger on the planet (I have the cellulite to prove it!).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jennifer St. Giles www.jenniferstgiles.com (J.L. Saint, Jennifer Saints)

Whether she is writing historic gothics and paranormals as Jennifer St. Giles, sexy contemporaries as Jennifer Saints, or military thrillers as J.L. Saint, this author will take you on a romantic adventure you won't forget. Jennifer is also a nurse, has more patience than anyone I've ever met, and is a wonderful, loyal friend (I didn't mean to make her sound like a Labrador retriever, LOL!).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Julie Kenner www.juliekenner.com (J.K.Beck www.jkbeck.com)

As Julie Kenner she entertains us with fast paced original contemporaries and as J.K. Beck she thrills us with paranormal romantic suspense.  Julie is another Whine Sister who I met when we both started writing for Harlequin, where we did an anthology together entitled The Hope Chest.  She is the most prolific writer I know and can accomplish more in ten minutes than I can in ten hours!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dee Davis www.deedavis.com

Dee's A-Tac series (Dark Deceptions, Dangerous Desires, Desperate Deeds) will keep you on the edge of your seat.  I can't wait until this thrilling series continues in September 2011 with Deep Disclosure.  I'm waiting to have a moment in Dee's company when she doesn't make me laugh.  We've spent a lot of moments together and it hasn't happened yet.  And so I keep waiting...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nora Roberts / J.D. Robb www.noraroberts.com  / www.jdrobb.com

Nora Roberts rocks my world--I am a serious fan!  There are very few authors I buy in hard cover, but she is one of them.  I am at the book store the day her books come out.  Her latest J.D. Robb, Treachery in Death was absolutely fantastic.  I have met Ms. Roberts several times at conferences (I nearly fainted from Fan Girl Syndrome each time) and have taken several photos with her.  Those photos are framed and sit on my desk.  I look at them every day.  And hope that someday I'll BLNR (Be Like Nora Roberts).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Judith McNaught www.judithmcnaught.com

Her historicals are what inspired me to write historical romances.  It's impossible for me to choose a favorite--I love them all.  I was fortunate enough to meet her at a conference and had a photo taken with her (I was so excited to meet her think I drooled on her shoe!).  Let her epic classics sweep you into a different time and place.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Julie Garwood www.juliegarwood.com

Another favorite historical author who I was fortunate enough to meet at a conference (she was incredibly gracious in the face of my star-struck babbling in her presence!).  Her books line my keeper shelf and are favorite re-reads.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Julia Quinn www.juliaquinn.com

Julia's trademark humor make her one of my favorites.  The Bridgerton Series is not to be missed!  The first time I met her, I babbled in her presence as well, but managed NOT to drool on her shoe (thank goodness!).  We bonded over my alligator purse, Allie (a stuffed alligator who wears a tiara!), who Julia fell in love with.  I must keep a close eye on Allie whenever Julia is around!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lisa Kleypas www.lisakleypas.com

Lisa's sensual historicals will keep you turning the pages long into the night, and her contemporaries are just as spectacular.  I always eagerly await her next book. (FYI--everyone babbles in Lisa's presence because she is ridiculously gorgeous.  Seriously, you can't remember what the heck you're saying--you can only stare at her).  In addition to being utterly gorgeous, she is also incredibly nice.  I think she should be cloned.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Teresa Medieros www.teresamedieros.com

Teresa is not only one of my favorite historical authors of all time, she is also one of the sweetest people I've ever met.  Plus she has the greatest smile--totally contagious and dimply (is dimply a word?? Well, you know what I mean).  I know Teresa well enough that I no longer babble around her.  At least not much.  But the first time I met her?  Oh, man.  LOADS of babbling.  Every one of her books is a keeper.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eloisa James www.eloisajames.com

This New York Times bestseller will sweep you away with her intelligent, witty stories, the most recent of which are based on fairy tales.  Like Julia Quinn, Eloisa also loves my alligator purse, Allie, so I have to watch carefully--there was almost a kidnapping once.  I'm afraid that if Julia and Eloisa ever join forces, I'll never see Allie again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christina Dodd www.christinadodd.com

Christina writes writes romantic suspense, paranormal and historical novels with emotion, action and drama that suck you in from the first page and never let go.  She was one of my favorite authors before I was published and she still is today.  I totally gawked and babbled the first time I met her, ‘cause you know, she’s Christina Dodd!  But I got over it quickly because she’s also funny and charming and sweet and just a tiny bit naughty—in the very best of ways!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pat Conroy www.PatConroy.com

Mr. Conroy doesn’t write romances, but since his novel The Prince of Tides is my favorite book of all time, I have to mention him.  I had the honor of meeting him at a book signing way back in 1996, before I was published.  I stood in front of him, utterly speechless with awe, watching him sign my books.  Suddenly he looked up at me and asked, “So Jacquie, what do you do?” (he knew my name because of the sticky note with it printed on it so he’d know who to sign the book to).  Well—I never expected that he’d actually SPEAK to me!  So there I stood, in front of my literary idol, sweating and flustered.  And did I say something intelligent?  Or even something along the lines of, “I’m an aspiring writer—any advice for me?”  Nope.  In a tiny, shaking voice, I managed to say, “I’m a housewife.” Yup—I was that incredibly smooth, people.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Best regards and happy reading,

Jacquie
